  • Small company line₦100,000,000

Turnover of ₦180,000,000 is above the ₦100 million limit for a small company. You pay 30% income tax plus the 4% development levy.

What if turnover grew 50%?

At ₦270,000,000 of turnover you would be paying ₦12,750,000 on ₦37,500,000 of profit.

How we worked it out

Turnover of ₦180,000,000 is above the ₦100 million limit for a small company.

Companies that are not small pay income tax at 30% of profit, plus a 4% development levy that replaces the education tax and several smaller levies.

Next step

Want to bring this number down, properly?

Capital allowances, losses brought forward and available reliefs can change the figure a great deal. That is what tax planning is for.

Assumptions and limits (5)
  • Applies 30% income tax and the 4% development levy to the profit figure you enter.
  • Capital allowances, losses, exempt income, incentives and sector-specific rules are not modelled, so your real assessable profit will differ.
  • The small company test uses ₦100 million turnover and ₦250 million fixed assets from the Nigeria Tax Act; commentators have noted a different turnover figure in the Administration Act, so confirm your position.
  • The what-if grows profit in line with turnover and keeps fixed assets the same.
  • Very large companies and multinational groups can face a 15% minimum effective tax rate, which is not modelled.

The small company test

Under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 a small company is one with gross turnover of ₦100 million or less and total fixed assets of ₦250 million or less. Professional services firms are excluded whatever their size. A small company is exempt from company income tax, capital gains tax and the development levy.

Everyone else

Companies that are not small pay income tax at 30% of assessable profit. On top of that sits a 4% development levy, which replaces the tertiary education tax, the IT levy, the NASENI levy and the police trust fund levy. That makes 34% of assessable profit before any reliefs.

What this estimate leaves out

Real assessable profit depends on capital allowances, disallowed expenses, losses brought forward and sector rules, and the largest groups face a 15% minimum effective tax rate. Those are the places where planning changes the bill. Talk to our tax team before you file.
